I am passionate for shimmering colors and glittering metals. I create my art using various media, especially collage, gold leaf, and materials of the day such as buttons, sequins, beads and shells. These materials are just as important in my art as oils, acrylic, or watercolors. The red sandstone Santa Susana Mountains near my home and the Southwest spirit of New Mexico and Arizona inspire me. I express whimsy by giving homage to things that are ordinary. Therefore, you might find a Southwest spirit, snake, cactus or pottery in my paintings. I find solace in painting flower pots, star forms, and patterns. Recently my love for music has led me to do a series on jazz. I have traveled to the jazz fests in New Orleans, Atlanta, and Birmingham -- to hear and feel the music and to sketch the musicians. These paintings tend to be busy -- with a lot gong on, and Jazz lets me be me -- to express my passion for shimmering colors, glittering metals, and lots of patterns. I like the challenge of capturing jazz on paper -- with all its intricate moods,m feelings and rhythms. My work has been shown at the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra store at the Woodruff Art Center and you can see my work in the Museum of Making Music, Carlsbad, California. |
